If your endorsing body leaves the list: the 90-day and 60-day rules

What the Home Office guidance says happens when your endorsing body is removed or surrenders status: 90 days for pending applications and leave, 60 days if support is withdrawn.

Endorsing bodies can leave the GOV.UK list. In 2026 alone the change log records five legacy bodies being removed, two of them with the note that they "no longer operate as endorsing bodies for these visas". When this happens, founders reasonably ask: what happens to me?

The Home Office's caseworker guidance for Innovator Founder (version 11.0, published 4 August 2026) answers that question in some detail. The answer depends on two things: whether your application is still pending or you already have leave, and whether you had any part in what went wrong.

The four scenarios at a glance

Your situationWhat the guidance says
Pending application, body removed for wrongdoing, you were complicitRejected as invalid
Pending application, body removed (you not complicit), surrendered, or withdrew supportCaseworker writes allowing 90 days to obtain a new valid endorsement; none in 90 days means rejection
Existing leave, body removed without wrongdoing by you, or voluntarily surrenderedNormally allowed to find another body first; leave cancelled to 90 days
Existing leave, body withdraws support from youLeave cancelled to 60 days

The rest of this article walks through each.

Pending applications: the 90-day window

Caseworkers verify every endorsement via the Innovator Founder route inbox. If, while your application is being considered, your endorsing body is removed from the list, the guidance distinguishes between applicants who were complicit and those who were not.

  • If the body was removed for wrongdoing and you were complicit, the application is rejected as invalid.
  • Otherwise, the caseworker writes to you allowing 90 days to obtain a new valid endorsement. The same 90 days applies if the body voluntarily surrendered its status or withdrew its support.
  • If you do not provide a new endorsement within the 90 days, the application is rejected.

A new valid endorsement means a full letter from a body that can currently endorse you. For most applicants that means one of the three Business Endorsing Bodies: UK Endorsing Services, Innovator International or Envestors Limited. See who can endorse a new Innovator Founder in October 2026.

Existing leave: cancellation, usually to 90 days

Once you have been granted leave, the guidance says it may be cancelled where an endorsing body loses its status (SUI 38.1), where your endorsement is withdrawn (SUI 31.1), or where there are fit-and-proper concerns.

Two protections apply if you were not complicit:

  1. You are normally allowed to find another endorsing body first. The guidance does not treat removal of your body as an automatic end to your stay.
  2. If the body was removed without wrongdoing by you, or voluntarily surrendered its status, leave is cancelled to 90 days. Cancelling "to" 90 days is generally understood to mean your remaining leave is cut short to a 90-day period rather than ending immediately; check the exact end date in any decision letter you receive.

This is the window in which you need to secure a new endorsement and make a fresh application, or otherwise regularise your position. Take advice on exactly which application you would be making, because it depends on where you are in your route.

When support is withdrawn from you: 60 days

A different rule applies where the endorsing body is still on the list but withdraws its support from you personally. Here the guidance says leave is cancelled to 60 days, not 90.

The withdrawal template lists reasons including not meeting the required progression, or withdrawal at the applicant's request because they are no longer pursuing the business. Endorsing bodies can withdraw endorsement at any time, including after approval, and they must tell the Home Office if a contact point is missed. We cover this scenario in when your endorsement is withdrawn.

Why complicity matters so much

The guidance repeatedly carves out applicants who were complicit in an endorsing body's wrongdoing. For a pending application, complicity turns a 90-day opportunity into an invalid rejection. For existing leave, the protection of normally being allowed to find another body first is framed around applicants who were not complicit.

This links to the fit-and-proper and source-of-funds confirmations that every first endorsement since 13 April 2023 must include. A founder who obtained an endorsement through an arrangement they knew to be improper is exposed in a way an ordinary applicant is not. What to do if you get a letter

If the Home Office writes to you about your endorsing body, treat it as urgent:

  1. Read the letter for the exact deadline and which scenario it describes.
  2. Check the GOV.UK endorsing bodies page and its change log to confirm the body's status.
  3. Contact one of the current endorsers with your plan, evidence of progress and a clear explanation of what happened.
  4. Respond to any information request on time. Under paragraph 39D, failing without reasonable explanation to provide requested information within 28 calendar days, or to attend an interview, can lead to cancellation being considered.
  5. Get qualified advice before deciding which application to make.

Key takeaways

  • Pending application and your body leaves the list: normally 90 days to obtain a new valid endorsement, or the application is rejected.
  • Existing leave: may be cancelled, but if you were not complicit you are normally allowed to find another body first, and leave is cancelled to 90 days.
  • Support withdrawn from you personally: leave is cancelled to 60 days.
  • Complicity in a body's wrongdoing removes these protections; a complicit pending application is rejected as invalid.
  • Keep your evidence pack current so you can approach a new endorser immediately.
